The author presents the evolutionary process that mercantile and commercial law has suffered, in particular, its codification and specialization. First, the author describes its genesis and evolution, and then presents the codification process, which culminated in the XIX century. From then on, we find a specialization process in mercantile and commercial law which brings about a plethora of laws and regulations. The author concludes proposing the codification of this branch of the Law with the creation of four codes: a new Commerce Code, a second one referring to negotiable securities and bonds, a third one referring to companies and corporations, and a fourth one referring to procedure.
