The Protection of Privacy in the Face of Governmental Transparency

Rachel Hollrah

The author offers a brief comparative study on the right to access information and the protection of personal data in Mexico and the United States. She presents a historical-political panorama of the origin and promotion of laws regulating access to information in the two countries. Hollrah provides a comparative analysis of the chapters of these laws in terms of information classified as reserved and confidential, delving into the principles and suppositions behind the legislation, as well as into the normative instruments for the protection of personal data. Hollrah´s study concludes by expounding on the different ways to improve the protection of personal data on a legislative and judicial level in the Mexican political system.
