Some Reflections on Information and Genetic Privacy

Alberto Arellano Méndez

The author delves into the normative aspects of the bioethical movement in terms of the evolution of new fundamental rights, such as the right to integrity, to know one´s own biological origins, the right to genetic privacy, and the right to know. Arellano Méndez discusses the principles and the general problem from the standpoint of biogenetics, to then review the norms regulating the protection of genetic databases in relation to the legal interest protected by law, which in this case is genetic privacy and intimacy. Finally, the author applies the legal bases that have been studied in this regard to the case of Mexico and analyzes the juridical framework in the country.
